BioShock Infinite E3 2011 gameplay demo

on July 8 2011

The wait is over. If you haven’t seen the full BioShock Infinite E3 gameplay demonstration, here it is–all 15 minutes of it. And if you already caught it last night on Spike, why not watch it again? You might notice something new.

There’s a lot of detail in there, so over the past few weeks, we’ve been drilling into various aspects of the game in a series of short video features. Our creative director Ken Levine explained the fiction and gameplay of Sky-Lines, the factions of Columbia, and Elizabeth’s power to control tears. He also introduced the first two minutes of the demo. Why would you need the first two minutes now that you can see the whole thing? That’s for you to know, and for me…not to know.

Absolutely breathtaking. The way you integrated gameplay and story trumps what you did with the original, and might finally break that barrier between CGI and actual gameplay for good. 2012 is going to be a VERY good year for gaming.

Bioshock was a monumental experience and words were true that this couldn’t be repeated with Bioshock 2.

But Infinite…it’s just great. I am totally sold.

On my sixth or seventh viewing. Concerning, I know. None the less, it’s just so captivating and immersive; it an action film, a poignant novel, and a moving work of art all rolled together in near perfect symmetry. My sincere thanks to Ken and IG for not simply creating this amazing experience, but for posting the full demo.

I wouldn’t say concerning, but that it says you know a display of extreme substance when you see one. You can analyze this demo over and over, and will find something unique every time. So brilliant!

Also, I’m confused as to how Booker finds his way up to that airship; The path up there seems totally unintuitive; Does he just jump on a rail and hope it takes him there? Curious to see how this kind of navigation will be handed over to the player. Seems like a lot of territory to fly by in a hurry for a game where you can also search a trash bin for ammo.

It was the small moments and gestures that really stood out to me, such as Songbird’s pushing Elizabeth aside and the way he tossed his head back during her apology. Lots of examples of “show, don’t tell.” 😉

I’m fascinated with the whole process of deciding exactly what to show during a demo like this. Walking that fine line between whetting our appetites and revealing too much. The game itself is art, but a good demo or reveal is a work of art in and of itself.

An amazing demo! I’m loving the art so much – really what pulls me into bioshock let alone the fantastic story and gameplay. Seeing options of whether to save/kill still in the game is also very nice. This is the game I am looking forward to the most out of any =)

You crazy twisted geeks have succeeded on so many levels here! By the time Elizabeth sacrificed herself to Songbird, I was utterly willing to tear off after her and fight that winged monstrosity to the death… be it mine or its.

That’s impressive; a connection of preternatural strength in only fifteen minutes… job well done Irrational!

And sweet Jesus! That battle at the end there! Blew my hair back! And I don’t even have much hair left!

Yes, Irrational, this is your overture.
The sense of virtigo and free roam is a welcome sight. Just be sure it is not over-drowned in color. Rapture was in the dark depths and now Columbia has brought us into the sun light, but even the sun can fade things to dark. In the end, this is not a circus.

Great gameplay demo! I’m a little disappointed at how your arsenal seems to be limited to only two weapons and two vigours at a time, but the combat looks very impressive and it seems that Irrational knows what it is doing.
But why did the Songbird have to open a second hole at that building?

  • hunam | July 9, 2011 5:19 am

That looks fantastic. I was really impressed with the sheer size of the player area during that confrontation. Being able to move around and dealing with each little section of the big combat puzzle is pretty incredible and probably mind bending when not using god mode 😛

Was a little surprised to see a two weapon limit though. Much prefer having a nice selection of weapons in none military games.

I find it fantastic how there’s so many details that makes this a bioshock game, but also how extreme some of the differences are, from a claustrofobic underwater cityto a sky city with a lot of open spaces. The skylines seem a lot of fun and the tears seem to give a few different strategies and replay value. I’m very much looking forward to it, and I can say I didn’t pre-order because I’m waiting to see if there’s a collector’s edition coming of something like that.

It’s just GREAT! It looks like that everything is on the right place again (just like in Bioshock), cannot w8 4 this game. I hope that the stellar event of 2007 will be repeat itself, so go for it, Bioshock Infinite for 2012 GOTY, after those E3 awards it’s really possible i guess. Hope that we will have more games from this fantastic franchise in the future, cuz IG always comes out with NEW&FRESH things with their games, unlike the CoD series for example. Hope BI comes out in Q1 2012:D Fingers crossed:D

Gorgeous, just immensely gorgeous. Not one for the FPS but this demo, with the beautiful colour palette, intricate storyline and blistering game play, has sold me. It even made me go buy the original Bioshock, a game I would overlook because of my disdain (and lack of skill) for FPS, and am thoroughly enjoying. Would just love to have a glimpse at the creative process you put so much effort into. Just amazing.
