Irrational Behavior Episode 9: Con Artistry

One of the largest facets of the video game industry lies with the various game conventions that all developers must attend in order to show off their wares. Throughout the history of Irrational, the minds behind the games would often travel to the various gaming shows throughout the year, giving them unique experiences, including past events where some team members attended as part of the press. Not only did the team get to meet some of their heroes from the industry, but they also gained invaluable lessons when examining the wins, the failures, and the gaps between making and promoting a game.

Yup – that takes a bit of time to show up, but it’ll roll over. In the meantime, you can always listen to it via our streaming service, or you can download it directly right here: http://downloads.2kgames.com/irrational/IrrationalBehavior_e09.mp3

The Irrational podcast stuff is by far the best developer podcast, and maybe even my favourite show about games in general.

It’d be so easy for a studio to say “why would we do this?” or “we don’t have time for this” or to use something like this as a weird fake marketing thing for some reason, but the Irrational Behavoir stuff is just perfect.

I hope you guys never run out of stuff to talk about, I want this show every month for like another year!

Was wondering when these would come back, like the Irrational Interviews podcast but love the Irrational Behavior podcast! Will make work go that much better later when I listen to it!

Fascinating to hear about what you all go through at cons along with your actual thoughts on them. E3 has always come across as this glorious celebration and overall a fun time, but I like how I got to hear the opposite end of that and how it’s basically make it or break it for your game. Still, E3 has this sort of aura around it that makes me wish I could go.

Merry Christmas To all the guys and gals working their arses off at irrational! This might be the mulled wine and beer talking, but I have so much respect for all of you. No matter what happens with infinite, irrational is still the coolest kid on the block as far as I’m concerned.

I really enjoyed the podcast. My only wish was that there was more detail about the audience reactions to Bioshock, but solid and glad to hear so many perspectives!

I only just got round to listening to this – I don’t suppose anyone has access to that interview that’s mentioned at about 40:00? It sounds interesting.
