Come back to Rapture in a story that brings Booker and Elizabeth to the underwater city on the eve of its fall from grace. Developed by Irrational Games, the developer of the original BioShock and BioShock Infinite, this DLC features Rapture as you’ve never seen it before—a shining jewel at the bottom of the ocean, built almost entirely from scratch in the BioShock Infinite engine. Gameplay has been modified to give the player an original BioShock combat experience that merges the best parts of BioShock and BioShock Infinite: new weapons, new Plasmids/Vigors, Tears, Sky-Lines, and Big Daddies.
Explore the city when it was at the height of its beauty, meet some old “friends,” and make some new ones, all through the eyes of Booker DeWitt. Why are Booker and Elizabeth in Rapture? What was the city like before everything fell to pieces? The answers to these questions and more will be found in BioShock Infinite: Burial at Sea – Episode 1. This pack is included in the BioShock Infinite Season Pass.

I’m guessing this is the love letter to Bioshock fans Ken was talking about working on! I can’t wait!
svenderson | July 30, 2013 8:24 am
It was too good to hope for something like this, but then again, what else did we expect when Ken used words like that?
spata | July 30, 2013 12:45 pm
Exactly what I was thinking as well. One thing to hope for it though, and another to see it come true. I can’t wait either!
jackdewitt | July 30, 2013 5:24 pm
My jaw hit the floor when I first saw the commercial..first thing that came to mind was”There is always a light house, always a man,and always a city.” Thank you to Ken and all of IG
joshimarston | August 10, 2013 9:50 am
This is it!!
vsharres | July 30, 2013 8:51 am

a1re4 | July 30, 2013 8:52 am
Bricks were just shat. Can’t wait! I guess we’ll have to wait for the release date though?
dannysal | July 30, 2013 9:29 am
My God. Thank you IG!
thepalestking | July 30, 2013 10:39 am
Wow, seeing Rapture as a living world will really enrich Bioshock 1. I’m interested to see how they justify this timeline and make it believable. If Booker is this age in 1958, he couldn’t have been at Wounded Knee. I also wonder if the same Father-Daughter dynamic exists. It’s not necessarily a constant that Elizabeth is Booker’s daughter. It certainly appears that this will be a much different relationship. I fully expect greatness from this.
grandsolovey | July 30, 2013 10:46 am
I’m not even exaggerating when I say that this trailer had me shaking and crying with excitement. This is going to be so, so good.
fredsy | July 30, 2013 11:32 am
Ohh this will be so awesome my day is saved by this trailer!
roughhouse | July 30, 2013 11:33 am
Made an account hoping to get the email and then download it day one. Not gonna lie, I teared up a bit watching this intro. It’s perfect timing as well, because I’m currently replaying the Bioshock series 😛
vsharres | July 30, 2013 12:45 pm
And please, make that AWESOME art deco poster with Booker and Elizabeth to be available to purchase in the IG store!
lifesaveatch | July 30, 2013 1:57 pm
A combination of my 2 favoriate games. I am easily more excited for this than most things in life. I can’t wait to see how the story plays out. Obviously the first things that come to mind are alternate universes of Booker and Elizabeth. I just wonder if there will be any further intertwining between these versions and the original versions from BioShock Infinite. Nevertheless, cannot wait to see how this plays out!
bailey | July 30, 2013 2:03 pm
Thank you so much Irrational for making this. I can hardly contain my excitement.
dannyjasin | July 30, 2013 3:21 pm
Somewhere beyond beantown and the sea…
nizzu | July 30, 2013 4:32 pm
Am I dreaming? I have so many ideas, thoughts and fabrications of Rapture and the city that it once was. To think some of these things will be revisited and visualized is incredible news!
Nobody holds BioShock closer to the heart than you guys and I expect nothing short of brilliance! Thank you Irrational!
bruce0129 | July 30, 2013 11:55 pm
See Rapture at his prime through Booker’s eyes! Little sisters and Mr. Bubbles are back! Elizabeth still has the Bird choker and the thimble on her pinky!
It’s going to be mind-blowing, AGAIN!
teff | July 31, 2013 12:19 am
Just registered only to come here to say THANK YOU!
Irrational game, please take as many time as you can, we can wait! I don’t care for another half year or so, just make it perfect! 😀
budonasty | July 31, 2013 2:52 am
WHAT!!!?? When Ken Levine said the DLC is a love letter to us fans he wasn’t exagerating! Its funny, I was just thinking to myself today how great it would be to experience more of the story of Rapture. And to experience it on that fateful New Years Eve?! I’m on pins and needles waiting for it’s release now. Thank you Irrational Games, you have all really outdone yourselves this time!
budonasty | July 31, 2013 3:00 am
And Rapture looks absolutely brilliant! I’m sure there is a lot more that can be done with everything considering how much game development has evolved over the last 5 or 6 years, since the release of the original Bioshock. I love how Booker uses Incinerate! to light Elizabeth’s cigarette. 🙂
japester | July 31, 2013 3:50 pm
This goes right to the top of my list. Very excited to see Rapture in it’s heyday. Been hoping and asking for that for years now.
🙂
insectswarm | July 31, 2013 5:49 pm
I never even received my pre-order bonuses. (I sent messages and emails to the right personnel but the issue has never been corrected and no one has gotten back to me.)
This better make up for it.
jimjansen | July 31, 2013 5:56 pm
:DDDDDDD
icegrove | July 31, 2013 6:47 pm
Am I the only one who thought when saw Elizabeth looked like Tenenbaum? I almost think that this will be a new world where Booker is Jack and Elizabeth is Tenenbaum.
I just can’t wait to see what going to happen!
shocker22 | July 31, 2013 6:52 pm
Yes!
thepalestking | August 1, 2013 9:49 am
Does anyone here know what those papers on his desk that say race form are? Are they related to gambling, i.e. horse racing, or having to do with the cultural construct of race? Either one fits into the character of Booker.
thepalestking | August 1, 2013 9:50 am
Just kidding, was able to make out the horse.
epifire | August 2, 2013 2:51 am
Looks like they switched places for some reason. He was her way out, and now they swapped places some how. “She promised me a way out and I was desperate enough to believe her”
Doesn’t matter what story your in, Booker can’t win a bet if his life depended on it!
broodyhercules1 | August 2, 2013 10:43 pm

bombolla | August 4, 2013 4:23 pm
i’m very happy cause i can see Rapture before the disaster!
joshimarston | August 10, 2013 9:51 am
You can already read about it if you buy “Rapture” .. really interesting!
joemommak1200 | August 5, 2013 11:38 am
I’m really starting to like this whole multi-verse thing! What’s not to love about something that could give Ken Levine something more to “say about Rapture” when most (like me) had come to accept the fact that all was told that needed to be told about our little home away from home…Me thinks Infinite has opened a quite large can o worms!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
bigdaddy97 | August 6, 2013 12:46 pm
Man, this is gonna be the first DLC I’ll ever buy 😀
But seriously, I really want to see how are they going to “merge” the two games. I really want Booker to meet some characters that weren’t there even in the first game, such as Bill McDonagh.
stuntman5 | August 8, 2013 6:32 pm
It would be awesome if they made more DLC’s that had alternate dimensions!
joshimarston | August 9, 2013 1:03 pm
Stop.. Elizabeth.. smoke? Smoke? Elizabeth smokes in the sense that .. WOW. So shocking as to be spectacular!! I expect great things from ” Burial at Sea” .. I have faith in you!
mjbs007 | August 9, 2013 1:58 pm
The world of Rapture is world I’ve longed and waited for, the art deco design, the landscapes, the colours -just playing the first 2 bioshock games just to stop and look at these is sometimes more than just playing the game -I really can not wait for this DLC – I really hope for more Rapture 🙂
rosssandwich | August 9, 2013 3:18 pm
I’m really looking forward to seeing Rapture again and playing as Elizabeth!
nicodemus | August 9, 2013 5:54 pm
i love the look and feel nice !!
seraph888 | August 10, 2013 4:55 am
Can’t wait to play this… Was dreaming about Rapture year after year.
Thank you guys.
icegrove | August 10, 2013 8:51 pm
Irrational. I hope your listing to all the fan here and same some of thsoe money to built the REAL RAPTURE! We know it will become the true utopia!
icegrove | August 10, 2013 8:52 pm
I ment save some of those money.
dumbangel | August 13, 2013 10:01 am
Beyond the sea, somewhere beyond the sea.
watchman | August 13, 2013 11:40 am
Will have to see what they do with it. Too much ‘quantum’ pseudo science stuff will detract from the thing that made Rapture special. Will Elizabeth have to use the magic stuff or can they manage to stay away from that.
arks | August 22, 2013 8:01 am
I think in this universe Booker Dewitt will be Jack because in the first Bioshock Jack had escaped rapture before the massacre, so then in burial at sea Dewitt is trying to escape rapture.
joshimarston | August 23, 2013 5:44 am
Dude.. it’s not even remotely possible x’D
