BioShock Infinite screenshots, Game Informer covers revealed

Game Informer has revealed its trio of incredible BioShock Infinite covers for the month of October, as well as a few in-game screenshots.

Illustrated by Irrational’s own Robb Waters, the covers are unique in the history of Game Informer in that they dispense with the magazine’s standard layout and logotype in favor of an entirely “in-character” design. The look directly evokes period publications like The Saturday Evening Post, whose early 20th century cover artists included legendary figures like Norman Rockwell and J.C. Leyendecker. These three beautiful covers depict key characters from the world of BioShock Infinite: the massive porcelain-fisted Handyman, Charles and his crows, and–most crucially–the imprisoned woman Elizabeth and her imposing protector and warden.

The back covers,  by artist Michael Swiderek, are fictionalized advertisements for various products offered to citizens of Columbia, including Sky-Hooks to traverse the soaring Sky-Lines that facilitate combat and movement in the city; a piece of patriotic piano sheet music; and the mysterious Murder of Crows. A bit of the effect of Murder of Crows can be seen in one of the new Game Informer-released screenshots, but it is also featured more fully in the upcoming gameplay video.

As always looks great! I think you’ve nailed that pre-war magazine feel. Looking forward to the game play footage.

Loving the covers still. They definitely have a Norman Rockwell “Saturday Evening Post” look, and I definitely dig that.

I remember when I was a kid, my grandma had a huge book of his drawings, and it makes me enjoy the art-style that much more.

I can swear I had a dream about those covers in my ninth grad English class. Which was two years ago! 😯
So that’s what the giant bird looks like. You’ve definitely recaptured the “WTF?” feeling for me.
It’s funny. All the things like the handyman and the giant, steam punk bird looked kind of stupid in my head, but Irrational was able to make those things look as badass as possible. 😀
The covers look awesome, by the way.

    BioShock Infinite’s Handyman Revealed News…

A screenshot has emerged of BioShock Infinite’s mysterious Handyman character, revealing what looks very much like a Victorian weightlifter with giant wooden hands that is bound to give Rapture’s notorious Big Daddies a run for their money. …

Big fan of the series and this one looks exactly like what I was looking for, a bright yet creepy game, this should do it… though the new “big daddy” characters don’t look like I’d hoped they would, giant hands included.

I’m still not sure that they are the equivalents to Big Daddies…just kind of a new form of character altogether.

I loved all the advertisments in bioshock 1 & 2 from posters to plasmid videos. I think its safe to assume they will be just as humorous in infinite
