Have you checked out the Irrational Games forums? Every day, our thousands-strong community discusses BioShock Infinite, past Irrational titles like System Shock 2 and Freedom Force, other developers’ games, and plenty of non-gaming topics.
I’ll be regularly rounding up interesting threads and posts from the forums to share here on the Insider blog. Of course, these are just a few of the vast number of discussions our community members are maintaining–and don’t hold back from starting a thread if you’ve got something new to contribute.
BioShock Infinite General: “Interesting Points in the Gameplay Demo!”
Since the BioShock Infinite gameplay footage was released, our community members have been discussing it in impressive depth. They’re sharing their general reactions as well as delving into analysis and speculation based on visual clues, historical context, and statements made in interviews and feature articles. Despite being started by user felonious more than a week ago, it’s still one of the forum’s most active threads.
BioShock Infinite General: “Totally Unrealistic Theories About Columbia”
While the “Interesting Points” thread attempts to meticulously deconstruct the gameplay trailer, nintendoll‘s “Totally Unrealistic Theories About Columbia” is a collection of deliberately far-flung flights of fancy. My favorite? Courtesy of svenderson: “The balloons…are alive.”
BioShock General: “If You Liked BioShock…”
Ragingmudcrab‘s recently-created thread serves as a list of narrative works–be they books, movies, television shows, or other games–that share thematic or tonal similarities to the original BioShock. His initial suggestions include 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Dark City, Citizen Kane, and more. One film he mentions, The Manchurian Candidate, has in fact been cited by Ken Levine as an inspiration, as explained in this BioShock interview I conducted in my pre-Irrational days.
